Guangzhou Medical University Overseas Medical Training Center in Kazakhstan established

The "Guangzhou Medical University (GMU) Overseas Medical Training Center was established on May 5 in Kazakhstan during a visit by Zhao Xingcun, president of GMU. Representatives from the Chinese and Kazakh medical communities jointly witnessed the inauguration at Astana Medical University in Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the initiative is to promote advanced medical technologies abroad, and accelerate the construction of a global community of health for all. The visit, took place from May 3 -10, also included Türkiye.

Building a regional medical innovation hub

Professor Anara Akybekovna, President of Astana Medical University, said in her speech that within the context of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, cooperation with Guangzhou Medical University (GMU) holds special significance.

Akybekovna noted that the leading technologies of GMU in fields such as urology and respiratory disease prevention and treatment will effectively enhance the level of medical services in Kazakhstan.

Zhao Xingcun pointed out that the establishment of the overseas medical training center is a substantive measure by GMU to implement the "Health Silk Road." In the future, it will gradually expand to include advantageous disciplines such as respiratory medicine and thoracic surgery, aiming to create a regional medical innovation hub radiating across Central Asia.

Subsequently, both sides reached a consensus on teacher exchanges, scientific research cooperation, and medical student exchange internships, and signed a strategic agreement for the training center.

Carrying out surgical demonstration and academic exchange

On the day of the inauguration, an expert team led by Professor Zeng Guohua, Chairman of the International Alliance of Urolithiasis and from GMU, launched the first phase of international standardized training in minimally invasive urological surgery.

Through an innovative teaching model combining "3D modeling surgical previews, simulated human operation training, and live surgical demonstrations," they provided systematic training for 32 key urological surgeons from various regions of Kazakhstan.

Dr. Ulanbek Zhanbyrbekuly, Director of the Urology Department at Astana Medical University, who participated in the training, believes that the ultra-mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy, flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy, and robotic single-port prostate cancer surgery techniques demonstrated by Chinese experts are among the most advanced minimally invasive urological surgical techniques in the world.

Both sides jointly held a urology-themed academic conference, where Professor Zeng Guohua and other experts delivered special reports. Nearly 100 professional doctors from Kazakhstan participated in the discussions.

The delegation from Guangzhou Medical University visits the National Emergency Medical Center and National Scientific Medical Center of Kazakhstan

During the visit, the delegation from GMU reached cooperation agreements with the National Emergency Medical Center and the National Scientific Medical Center of Kazakhstan. Both sides will engage in cooperation in clinical research and the exchange of clinical medical personnel.
